The Love of An Aunt
An Aunt’s love
Jumping up and down, she
screamed in joy and hugged her sister tightly. She couldn’t control her
happiness. She was over the moon with this news.
She couldn’t wipe that
wide smile off her face. The 18-year-old was going to be an aunt. She had
waited and dreamed about this day for years and it was finally coming true. She
was thrilled. She paced back and forth with excitement while blabbering about
how she was going to tag along to every doctor’s appointment and how many things
she was going to prepare. Saying she was overjoyed, is an understatement
The day of the first appointment
arrived, she made sure to complete all her university work to be with her
sister on this special day. The whole way, she couldn’t wait to see what the
little one looked like. They arrived at the hospital. After a thorough
discussion about the upcoming adventures of this blessed journey, they finally
went to ultrasound. There it was, a little ball of cells. The 18-year-old
looked at it and went into a trance. The little thing was tiny yet blossomed a
big feeling in her heart. It was a kind of love she never experienced before.
It was the love of an aunt.
As time passed, she
made sure to be with her sister to comfort her and watch the little ball of
happiness grow.
5 months later, the
little ball of cells was a little human. He could listen and respond to the
calls of those already in the world. Leaning over her sister’s belly, she
started whispering “Hi baby, I love you already” with her hand lightly laying
on the skin. “Woah!” She exclaimed, looking at her smiling sister surprised.
“He kicked! I felt him kick!” She started laughing happily. “I can’t wait for
you to be here you little footballer.” One can say, she was already smitten.
The time went by fast, it
was almost time for the little bundle of joy to arrive in this world. “Look at
this romper it’s so cute!” She said while displaying the romper saying “ Who
cares when my aunt is here” to her
sister. She was ready for him to arrive. “Any day now.” Her sister said lightly
while smiling at her excited sister.
“It’s okay, you can do it
sis!” she comforted her sister on the way to the hospital. It was time for the
arrival of the bundle of joy. She felt a mixture of feelings at that moment;
worry, panic, and excitement jumbled inside her but she continued comforting
her sister to conquer this much-awaited day.
Her heart raced the whole
time the sister was in the hospital bed. Her leg moved up and down in
nervousness. She despised watching her sister in pain but knew it was going to
be worth it when the little one came into this world. She just wanted the hard
part to end very soon.
“Congratulations! It’s a
healthy little boy!” The doctor informed coming out of the labor room. She
was dumbstruck for a moment. She is an aunt to a baby boy. After comprehending
the information for a few minutes, she immediately rushed to see her sister
when she was allowed to by the hospital staff.
The rest of the world
blurred when she saw him, there she was, oh so perfect little ball of sunshine.
The most beautiful little boy she had ever seen lying peacefully in his bed, was
her nephew. She picked him with utmost care and soft hands. Examining his soft
skin, perfectly pink little lips, perfect little nose, hands, and feet. She
looked at him smiling with tears prickling her eyes.
“You are the most
beautiful my dear one. I already loved you when you were not here in this
world. God knows how much it escalated now that you are here.”
When she saw him, the
pleasant feeling in her chest bloomed like a flower, she wanted to stay with him
watching him. She had never felt this before, it felt unrealistic. How can a non-speaking
little human make the 18-year-old head over heels for her already? Nonetheless,
there he was charming his aunt every second that passed. The aunt had nerve
felt this warmth before but she knew she would trade it for anything in the
world. The warmth that made her rush to the baby’s side whenever she heard even
a little whimper, that wouldn’t let anyone touch him without washing their hands, that made sure that her nephew was in
the best comfort and peace.
This warmth was an aunt’s
love. The love may not be comparable to the parents but still holds significant
importance in their own lives.
